There are three types of people in this world. Some people shower daily, some shower every few days and, then some bathe so rarely that they start smelling like dead people.
For many people showering is a part of their daily routine. Some people have even included taking a shower two times a day in their daily routine. The feeling of warm water running down your skin is the most relaxing.
Showering habit depends on the personal preference of the individual. I am the type of person who bathes every alternate day, as too much showering can irritate my skin.

According to Dermatologists, taking a shower everyday is bad for your skin as it can lead to dry skin. In turn, showering every day will damage your skin.
Skin has it’s own microbiome (microorganisms in a particular environment), just like gut microbiome. The skin microbiome is composed of bacteria, fungi and other organisms which interact with each other, impacting immune system of skin. Whereas, not showering enough can lead to acne, infection and other skin conditions.
Everyone has a different kind of skin, which requires a different kind of care. No matter what shower routine you follow, this article will help you.

What are the health impacts of showering daily?
Whether you shower in the morning or nighttime, you feel refreshed and clean. Showering daily can cause an imbalance in the skin microbiome by reducing normal oil levels and good bacteria. Since each person’s skin changes from season to season, showering affects skin according to the season.
Some of the health impacts are listed below:
- Skin becomes dry and irritated
- Itchy and flaky skin
- Dry and brittle hair
- Dry scalp and dermatitis of scalp
- Skin conditions like Psoriasis and Eczema
What are the benefits of showering everyday?
In the past, I used to shower daily. Nothing beats showering in winter with hot water and, the steam covers the whole bathroom up.
Showering undoubtedly has many benefits, such as:
1. No body odor
After an intense workout that leaves us covered in sweat, it is vital to take shower. This is because the bacteria on our skin break the protein molecule in the sweat, leaving a bad odor.
2. Rare chances of getting acne because of clogged pores
The pores get clogged up due to excess oil production, dead skin cells, and dirt. Taking a shower every day will clean clogged pores.
3. Feel physically and mentally fresh
A shower will uplift your mood and leave you physically and mentally fresh for the whole day. It’ll charge you up with new energy.
4. Help’s to wake up
If you are grumpy and sleepy in the morning, a shower will help you. A morning shower can wake you up and even boost creativity that can last for the day.

How often should you shower?
Since everyone is different with different types of skin, there is no ideal frequency. Dermatologists recommend showering every alternate day or every third day.
One showering session should be between 5 – 10 minutes, focusing on the face, armpits, and groin area to remove oil and dirt accumulated. On days when you don’t shower, you can clean your body with a wet towel to clear yourself.
Hot showers make the skin dry even faster. So practice caution when taking hot showers.
On top, you can also save money on your utility bills as showers use a lot of water.

Do you need to shower everyday?
Showering every day will help people with oily skin, physically demanding work where they sweat a lot, and someone who works on construction sites with constant exposure to dust. However, if you have dry skin, showering every day will cause more harm. Your skin becomes dry and brittle, which can lead up to infections.

Conclusion
Although showering every day has its own merits, it also has demerits. You can experiment on your own and see what showering habit suits you the most. It may help to shower every alternate day or every third day if you have dry and flaky skin. Also, showering every day can help people with oily skin.
We suggest you experiment on your own and choose what is best for your skin. We recommend you to talk with your dermatologist if you have skin problems.
