Every mother is protective of their children, no matter the species.
This Texas mother, Phyllis Pena is no different. It was early in the morning, around 7 am, when Pena was pulling in the driveway. She was returning from the store, that’s when she noticed a masked man looking through her teen daughter’s window. Thankfully, her daughter was not in the room at the moment. Pena informed the police right away regarding the situation.
However, it was not the officers who captured the voyeur.
“First instinct was just to make sure he didn’t go any further”, said the fierce mother.
Police’s dash cam captured the takedown.
In the clip, we can see the mother and daughter talking to the officers on the lawn. Meanwhile the suspect identified by the officers as Zane Hawkins, 19 tries to dodge the family and runs past them. That’s when Pena went full linebacker on the teenager and tackled him down on the ground.
Hawkins was charged with substance possession as well as evading and resisting arrest.
Later the Sgt. Roy Welch added, “It’s not very often that we have somebody that actually steps in, puts themselves in harm’s way to assist in apprehending somebody”
